What's behind the egg selling
This just caught my sight.
Today on the Nairobian magazine I read an article
about campus girls selling their eggs. It's really weird that people have a
problem with this. It's like adoption, but even more interesting because
there's no childless mother struggling to cool down the fire of not having a child.
Many girls may use this for wrong reasons but
I appreciate those that give their eggs to help
somebody. I have interacted with several girls who have sold and donated their
eggs. It’s a good paying art that has now lured large number of Campus girls into
it. Selling of eggs is the only business that one earns quick money without
requiring capital to start it.
Lilian, one of the girls I
interacted with had different feeling about the egg selling business. Her first
egg selling business wasn’t that friendly to her. ”My first egg selling, I was
so excited about what was going on and I decided to share my happiness with my
family and most of my friends on social media. Things did not turn out as I
thought they would. Friends on my social media page went crazy on me but with
time they had to understand this was my decision. I really don’t regret having
to sell my eggs. ”
I was interested in
knowing how the process feel like though according to Lilian egg selling is as
good as shopping in a Supermarket. “The process is not that hurtful as you may
think. One is always totally asleep so you don't feel anything during the
procedure. The recovery period isn't necessarily painful but one may feel just
uncomfortable. It did hurt to sit up from a laying down place
for the first few days, but it was easy to go through during my normal days.”
She may be right though there is one thing that I
really don’t understand; is the egg selling considered some as the egg
donation?
According to me,
everything is ok providing one is comfortable doing it. I'm not against nor am
i supporting egg selling or egg donation neither am I judging those that have
done it but at some point, it just doesn't make sense. I never thought of
donating or selling my eggs. While growing up I related to egg selling stories
but these was believed to be
practised by the white people. Come to think of it, the resulting baby may not
legally or socially be your child but they are biologically your child. You
have babies out there. You are literally a mother to someone.
To my understanding, donating or selling eggs
have several ways that one is
required to undergo. For instance Lilian was required
to inject herself everyday with this (HCG) Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
medicine. The medicine did make her very bloated by the end of the cycle and
certainly uncomfortable. But due to the need for money she still carried out a
number of egg selling process.
Men have come out to lament this act and
others even saying they cannot date or marry a girl that
has sold her eggs. The main reason being, fear of not having children in
future. Doctors have also raised an alarm on the
egg selling business. Sometimes we rush on condemning people without analysing
what really prompted them into doing it. I understand not all campus girls sell
their eggs for money. Let me get this correct, egg selling is the digital job
that has revealed itself to young Kenyans. Many people have died trying it out
but that is not the end of the business for others. Actually, those that have died
trying it are just the specimen that was used to prove
the effectiveness of the process.
